Project task permissions, project settings, and a cleaner workspace
Not every project should let everyone change every task. Projects now have their own settings, so you can decide whether all members, only a task's assignees, or only managers can make changes. Alongside that, we've simplified much of the app so the work stands out more than the chrome around it.
Who can update tasks
Open a project's … menu and choose Project Settings. Under Who can update tasks, pick one of three options:
- All members — anyone in the project can update any task. This is the default, so existing projects work as before.
- Assignees only — only a task's assignees (and the person who created it) can change it.
- Managers only — only project managers and workspace admins can create or change tasks.
Workspace owners, admins, and the project's creator can always edit. You can also mark other project members as project managers from the same screen. Everyone can still comment on any task, and a subtask's assignee can always tick their own subtask off.
The rules are enforced on the server, not just hidden in the interface, so they apply no matter where a change comes from.
A simpler, calmer interface
- Board: cards lead with the task title and show due date, priority, comments, files, and assignees in one quiet line. Overdue dates turn red.
- Board toolbar: switch between Board, List, and Timeline with tabs; Sort and Filter stay out of the way until you use them.
- Task pages: status, priority, due date, and assignees appear as simple chips under the title, with cleaner tabs and subtasks below.
- Create and edit task: project, status, and priority sit on one line; less-used fields like tags and mentions are tucked behind a link.
- Sidebar: a lighter design with plain counts, and storage shown as a simple bar with numbers.
- Project overview and leaderboard: shorter, easier to scan, with a one-click switch to turn the leaderboard on or off.
Fixes
- Turning the leaderboard on now saves correctly. Renaming a project from the sidebar no longer clears its description.
- Clicking a task on the board opens it again after you've dragged a card between columns.
- Editing a task keeps its project, assignees, tags, and progress instead of resetting them.
- The New secret panel now opens in front of the project's Secrets drawer.
